The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has sent a stern warning to the party’s 2024 flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to desist from issuing further threats targeted at him.
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, accused Mr. Agyapong of constantly threatening him like he did to slain journalist, Ahmed Suale of Tiger Eye PI.
Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi, Chairman Wontumi noted that he does not take the threats by Mr. Agyapong who is also the Assin Central Member of Parliament lightly, pointing out that Ahmed Suale died following similar threats.
He has therefore threatened to cause the arrest of the flagbearer aspirant if he does not stop.
“I love NPP, I will never say anything against the party or Kennedy Agyapong. I will always ensure the progress of the party. I will let the police arrest you if you threaten me again with your showdown comments.
“I’m advising you against such comments, your threats on Ahmed Suale’s life caused his death. I’m not interested in you losing the elections, but please tell delegates what you can do for the party and desist from spewing derogatory comments against party members, and polling station agents.
“Just try to apologise to them. You have insulted chiefs, judges, and everyone in the country, everybody knows what you can do, change your attitude,” he said in Twi.
On Saturday, September 30, the firebrand lawmaker dared Chairman Wontumi not to make a mistake to attack former member Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
“He will see men in Ghana. He has set up a radio station and a TV station and just insulting elders,” the presidential aspirant said in Twi.
“I am telling Wontumi that he should come and stand here. He was a ‘thick” Alan supporter and I convinced him to support President Akufo-Addo. I have no problem. If you support President Akufo-Addo, I have no problem. If you support Vice President, I have no problem but don’t insult.”
But Chairman Wontumi said with exactly one month to go to the NPP Presidential Primary, the Assin Central MP should rather outline what he can do.
“If you can do anything, in 2020 if Ashanti Region did not do well, what of Central Region? How did things go? Was Chairman Wontumi there?” he asked regarding the fact that Ken Agyapong is from the Central Region.
“The truth is that Kennedy, say what you can do. If from today, 4th [of October], exactly one month to the elections, you can say what you can do.”
