A farmer in his 40s identified as Mr. Kofi Annan has allegedly committed suicide Tuesday morning at his residence in Esaman in the Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abrem District in the Central Region.
According to his children, they suspect their father woke up at dawn and committed the act.
Residents claim he was seen a day before looking fit, and did not exhibit any sign that he had a problem. They however recalled how the deceased often threatened to “commit suicide one day”.
“We saw him Monday evening with the children together and even saw him yesterday morning going to his farm, so we find this as a shock,” a resident told Newstitbits‘ regional correspondent.
“This morning we heard a noise from his house around 2:00 am and when we got there we found him hanging on a rope in his bedroom,” another resident told a local reporter Kwame kakraba.
Personnel from the Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abrem Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service have since conveyed the body to the morgue for autopsy and preservation as investigation commences.
The late Kofi Annan left behind two children: male and female. He was not married at the time of his death.
