Portions of the Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi have been gutted by fire.
A thick smoke engulfed that section of the market called Dubai where tyres are sold.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were on the scene and managed to douse the inferno after some hours of struggling to bring it under control. At least three fire tenders were at the scene of the fire.
The cause of the fire, which started around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, March 15, is yet to be known.
Videos cited by Newstitbits.com on social media saw some traders who were trapped at a top section of the market trying to escape from the fire using ropes.
Some of the traders were also seen trying to salvage what was left of their wares while bystanders watched from afar.
Meanwhile management of the Kejetia market has announced that the facility would be closed on Thursday morning until 12pm.
