NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo[/caption] The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for the resignation of the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, for explosive comments allegedly made by him in a leaked audio. Addressing the media in Accra, Wednesday, the Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, said the contents of the tape suggest that the opposition NDC is arming its members to visit mayhem on innocent citizens. “We will go after them. But not face to face. We will let them know that their lives are in danger. Our people have identified a number of them,” the voice said targeting militia groups aligned to the governing NPP believed to have perpetuated the bloody incidents at Ayawaso. The voice on the tape also confessed that both the NPP and NDC brought in militia groups from the north during the recent Ayawaso be-election in Accra which turned violent. The tape among others revealed elaborate plans by the NDC to go after the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, prepare for future elections and paint President Akufo-Addo as a violent person. The voice is said to have been recorded at one of the meetings of the NDC communicators where the party chairman attended. Though Mr. Ofosu Ampofo has not spoken about the tape, the Communications Director of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi has denied the contents, claiming the tape was doctored and being circulated by the government to divert attention from the latest exposé on galamsey by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. But Buabeng Asamoah who is convinced the voice is that of Mr. Ofosu Ampofo wants “right thinking” members of the NDC to distance themselves from what he calls “shameful leadership”. “Those in the NDC who believe in an ideology must rise and demand resignations; all those culpable must account to the NDC first and to the nation so that they restore the moral right to participate in the decent politics of this country.” He said Mr. Ofosu Ampofo must apologize for trying to instigate NDC supporters against President Akufo-Addo, EC boss Jean Mensa and the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante. Mr. Buabeng Asamoah stressed that if nothing is done about the plans as contained on the tape, there cannot be peace in the country. He also accused the NDC of convincing the European Union not to fund the 2020 general elections. He claimed former President Mahama might have known the plans of the party to cause insecurity in the country that got him gingered up to make the “boot for boot” comment.
