The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George has praised former President John Dramani Mahama for stating his stance on the issue of homosexuality.
According to him, Mr. Mahama has proven to be a real leader in his declaration and posterity will remember Mahama for this singular action.
Describing his decision as bold and decisive, Sam George said he never doubted Mahama on the subject.
“Dear JD Mahama, this is bold. This is decisive. This is leadership. Standing for what one believes in. I have never doubted your position on the matter, especially when you were attacked as President in Scotland in 2016 over your position on homosexuality. Posterity would remember you for good. The Country stands with you on this Sir,” Sam George posted on his Twitter page.
This comes after the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama declared his stance against LGBTQ+ activities.
The former president made this known when he addressed a breakfast meeting with the Clergy in Koforidua as part of his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ on Wednesday, January 31.
“I personally believe a man is a man and a woman is a woman. I don’t believe one can get up in a day and opt to change his gender because he feels like, so he’s going to change to become a woman when he has actually been born a man. Nature created us man and woman and God knew what he was doing when he created us like that. So my personal faith is against it,” Mr. Mahama noted.
Meanwhile, Builsa South lawmaker, Dr Clement Apaak, has called out the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to also make his stance clear on the issue of homosexuality following former President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration.
Some Members of Parliament have initiated a bill on the activities of the LGBTQ persons in Ghana.
The bill, when passed will criminalize the promotion, advocacy, funding and acts of homosexuality with a prison term up to ten years in prison for LGBTQ+ advocates and three years for anyone identifying as such.
