Mobile Money (MoMo) agents in Ghana are limiting cash withdrawals to a maximum of GH¢1,000 per transaction, effective December 1, 2023.
The decision was announced in a joint statement issued by four MoMo Associations: the Northern MoMo Agents Association of Ghana (NOMAAG), the Mobile Money Advocacy Group (MOMAG), the Mobile Money Agents Association Ghana (MMAAG), and the ABAG.
According to the MoMo Associations, the move is to secure fair compensation for their services and also to draw attention to their longstanding concerns regarding inadequate compensation for their services.
“Effective 1st December 2023, a temporary measure will be implemented, restrictingcashwithdrawals to a maximum of Ghc1,000.00 per transaction to customers for all MobileMoney Agents across various service providers. Our goal is to ensure fair compensationfor the dedicated agents.”
The statement added that during this period, they will continue to actively engage with service providers to address the commission review concerns raised.
The Associations however, mentioned that “if, within the one-month period, there is no favourable adjustment, we will regrettably have to implement further action plans.”
They further urged stakeholders and custome to join them in mobilizing support for fair compensation to Mobile Money Agents.
