The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has described as “sacrilege”, the burning of trucks by members of Operation Vanguard in the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region. The lawmaker also indicated that the right to ownership of property of the affected persons has been trampled on. To this effect, the minority caucus from the Northern Region has vowed to pursue the actions of the Operation Vanguard team to its logical conclusion. Fourteen tipper trucks, one excavator, and four motorbikes were set ablaze on March 3, 2018 in Nawuni, a suburb of Dalung in the Kumbungu district by some soldiers serving under Operation Vanguard. The trucks belonged to some sand winners who operate along Dalung river, which is a tributary of the White Volta Lake. The rive passes through the operational site of the Ghana Water Company Limited in the Northern Region. On Friday, Haruna Iddrisu visited the sand winning site with some members of the Minority Caucus including the leader of the Northern Caucus in Parliament Inusah Fuseini, MP for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak; Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini; and the MP for Binduri, Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem together with some executives of the NDC in the Northern Region.
