The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is cautioning the general public to psyche themselves up for what it is predicting to be heat exhaustion on Wednesday. Heat exhaustion is a condition whose symptoms may include heavy sweating and a rapid pulse, a result of the body overheating. It’s one of three heat-related syndromes, with heat cramps being the mildest and heatstroke being the most severe. NADMO in a statement on Tuesday explained that the heat exhaustion occurs after one is exposed to high temperatures and is often accompanied by dehydration. “The average temperature across the country, on Wednesday 6th March 2019, is expected to be the highest for the week; rising from approximately 39°C to 42°C in the afternoon,” the statement said. “Therefore the risk of heat-related illness is most likely.” In view of this, NADMO is advising the general public to take the following precautionary measures:
- Drink plenty of fluids (cool water, juices)
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol
- Avoid tight clothing
- Wear light clothing
