A leading contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in Agona West, in the Central Region, Mr. Chris Arthur claims the party’s main political opponent, NDC, is employing every means possible to ensure that the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area is re-elected on the ticket of the NPP.
But he has sent a strong signal to the NDC that the MP, Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, whom they are hoping to make mincemeat of would be defeated so they should be prepared to contend with him in the December elections.
The NPP parliamentary primaries for constituencies with sitting MPs have been slated for January 27, 2024.
Speaking to delegates in Agona Nyarkrom on Saturday after he graced this year’s GNTDA Graduation, Mr. Chris Arthur charged the delegates to consider a candidate who can win more votes for both Dr. Bawumia and the parliamentary seat for the party.
According to him, the NDC parliamentary candidate and some NDC executives are seriously campaigning underground for Madam Cynthia Morrison because they know she is easier to beat.
“They are doing so many things for her to win but they are joking. I will win the primary so they should get ready for me. We will finish NDC in Agona West in 6 months so they should continue campaigning for her,” he taunted.
He accused the MP of waging a religious campaign against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP presidential primary last year, and wondered how she will team up with now the party’s presidential candidate to break the 8.
“Dr. Bawumia is still a Muslim. Will she now go to Zongo and say that now a Muslim can become a president? Can she come to Nyarkrom Zongo who voted hugely for us in 2020 and campaign for herself and Dr. Bawumia?” he quizzed.
