The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has effected changes in the leadership of its Minority Members of Parliament.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu; Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi; and Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, all very experienced legislators, have all been changed.
This is contained in a letter from the party signed by its General Secretary Fifi Flavi Kwetey dated January 23, 2023 and addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson who is the Ranking Member on the Finance Committee has been named as the new Minority Leader. He is also the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam constituency in the Central Region.
The position of Deputy Minority Leader has been given to the Member of Parliament for Ellembele Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
The Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Aboadza is now the Minority Chief Whip.
However, the MP for Banda in the Bono Region Ahmed Ibrahim and MP for Ada constituency located in the Greater Accra Region Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah were both maintained as the First and Second Deputy Minority Whips respectively.
Meanwhile, the Minority is required to find replacements for Dr. Ato Forson and Kwame Abodza as the Ranking Members on the Finance Committee as well as the Roads and Transport Committee for the approval of the party.
“The new leadership would be charged to recommend consequential changes in the Ranking membership to Headquarters of the party for approval,” a portion of the letter to the Speaker read.
Meanwhile, Newstitbits understands the affected members of the leadership have received personal letters indicating their replacement.
They have been instructed to hand over to the new leadership with immediate effect.
According to the party, the changes would “reposition” the biggest opposition party “better” to recapture power as it goes into the 2024 general elections.
