The largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Bernard Allotey Jacobs considered by some as a firebrand.
The former Central Regional Chairman of the party was suspended for his “persistent anti-party conduct”.
Mr. Allotey Jacobs has been criticized by some members of his party for certain utterances he has been making in the media recently, which many said will hurt the fortunes of the party going into the 2020 general elections.
The decision to suspend him follows a meeting by the Functional Executive Committee of the party on May 6, 2020.
He was informed by the decision through a letter signed by the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo on Wednesday.
“The Functional Executive Committee (EC) of the National Democratic Congress acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, at its meeting held on Wednesday, the 6th day of May, 2020, has suspended you forthwith as member of the party,” the letter said in part.
This, the party said, is pursuant to “Articles 46 (1), 46 (6) and 46 (8) (b) of the party’s constitution for your persistent anti-party conduct”.
The matter has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the Party for further action, Allotey Jacobs was informed in the letter.
The Central Regional Chairman of NDC and the Cape Coast South Constituency Chairman of the party were copied in the letter.
