The former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Mrs. Cynthia Morrison, has incurred the wrath of some functionaries of the governing New Patriotic Party who want her sanctioned for allegedly disregarding laid down rules.
Mrs. Morrison, who is the Member of Parliament for Agona West, has been hauled before the party’s disciplinary committee by four persons, accusing her among others of taking legal actions against members of the party without first exhausting the grievance and disciplinary procedures laid down in the party’s constitution.
Isaac Asare, Manaf Gibrine, Jonathan Nyanful, all Polling Station Officers, and Asare Oscar, a party member, are asking the leadership of the party to punish the legislator together with two others to deter others who want to thread that same path.
Highlighting her alleged offences, the petitioners claimed one Mrs. Lucy Acquaye, a known NPP party member in Agona Swedru was summoned at Agona Swedru Chief’s Palace on party related issue based on an allegation made by one Kadil Sawadego, a polling station executive at Swedru Yalewa Zongo.
The matter was heard on 15th December 2022 with Mrs. Acquaye being fined GH¢3,000.00 and two sheep.
“Again, the MP has summoned us [the petitioners] to Swedru Ahenfie over what she claims to be insult made by us on a tape recording which we have not been given an opportunity to listen.
“That this attitude of the MP has gone contrary to the party’s law and structures. Her action is inimical to the progress of the party and same must not be left unchecked.”
The petition that was addressed to the Agona West Constituency Chairman of the NPP, copied to the Regional Chairman and Chairman of Constituency Disciplinary Committee, prayed among others that:
“The Honorable Member of Parliament must not be allowed to destroy the very structure that made her.
“A declaration that her action is unconstitutional, undemocratic, politically unreasonable and therefore must be condemned.
“A punishment be imposed on her to serve as deterrent to others.”
