The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has warned delegates against buying of votes during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 27.
According to the Executive Director of GII, Mary Addah, it is an offense to buy or sell votes.
She stressed in a Citi News interview that “the criminal act offense criminalizes the offense of vote-buying” noting that there are a lot of things that happen during these processes.
Madam Mary Addah also reminded the general public that vote buying is punishable by law.
“Some of these inducements could be attractive to them, but they should remember that these are crimes they could be prosecuted for, ” she emphasized.
She explained that both those who want to represent their constituents and delegates, they should remember that both are liable.
In the meantime, the CEO of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, is under investigation over allegations of vote-buying during the vetting of nominees for the primaries.
The NPP will conduct elections on Saturday in constituencies with sitting MPs.
