Some youth, believed to be members of the governing New Patriotic Party, today made botched attempts to takeover the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Sagnerigu and Tamale metropolis. The about 30 youth stormed the NHIS offices in the Northern region Monday but their efforts to eject workers there were thwarted by the timely intervention of the police. The errant youth, nonetheless, insisted that the directors of the scheme should vacate their posts by Tuesday. They claimed the directors where appointed by the previous National Democratic Congress government, and must therefore leave office for new persons to be appointed by the new government that officially started work today. “They said we should not come to work from tomorrow,” a worker who doesn’t want to be named told 3news.com’s Zubaida Ismail. Police officers have been stationed at the various state institutions including that of the National Disaster and Management Organisations that was attacked when the NPP won power in last month’s general elections.
