The Chairman of the Council of Elders for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in South Africa, Benjamin Kofi Quashie is questioning the competence of Alan Kyerematen in his bid to be president of Ghana.
The NDC Chairman although commended Alan Kyerematen for being a gentleman par excellence, he said the former minister is not fit for the job of rescuing the economy.
When asked if Alan qualifies to be president, he responded that every Ghanaian including Mr. Kyerematen could be president but reiterated Alan cannot be Ghana’s savior.
His comments come on the back of Alan Kyerematen’s resignation as a minister to focus on his presidential ambition.
The former Minister for Trade and Industry tendered in his resignation on Thursday, January 5, thanking the president for the opportunity to serve.
“I would like to thank @NAkufoAddo for the opportunity to serve and for graciously accepting my resignation as Cabinet Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, effective 16th January, 2023,” Mr. Kyerematen posted on Twitter.
He subsequently addressed the nation where he formally declared his intention to contest in the NPP flagbearership race in a bid to become the next president of Ghana.
However, Benjamin Quashie believes that despite his qualifications, the former Trades Minister lacks the capacity to rescue the ailing Ghanaian economy.
The South African NDC Council of Elders Chairman maintained, “Alan is a very fine gentleman…he qualifies to be president but unfortunately at this point he is not somebody that can take us out of the economic mess, no!”
He earlier remarked that the Trades Minister was part of those who took decisions that have brought Ghana’s economy to a standstill thus putting Ghanaians in a hardship situation.
