The ferry loaded with three cargo trucks full of yams that sunk Friday on the Volta lake at Makango was still in the water Saturday afternoon. When 3news’ Christopher Amoako visited the area on Saturday and reported that one of the trucks aboard the ferry has virtually submerged. A group of young men were also seen offloading the yams into canoes and boats. Officials from the Salaga Fire Service Division were also seen waiting to drain the water from the Ferry. The Salaga Divisional Fire Commander, ADO Norbert Adiali told 3news until the trucks are offloaded, nothing can be done about the situation. Some of the drivers who spoke to the news team blamed the situation on the decomposed wood in the ferry. They also appealed to authorities to consider getting them a new vessel. A check on the ramps show most of the woods have been removed. The captain of the vessel declined to speak to the media. Meanwhile, a vessel is said to have taken off from Akosombo as of 9:00pm Friday and is expected to arrive Saturday evening in Makango to salvage the situation. Passengers are stranded at Makango with many cars in queue waiting to be conveyed. Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
