Three police officers are in critical condition after a school bus ran into a police barrier at Kwabenakwa in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The bus belongs to the Jita Academy with registration number GN6920-13
Preliminary investigation suggests that, the driver of the school bus lost control of the steering wheel due to a failed brake whilst approaching the barrier, and crushed the police officers.
The officers were on duty, and at the time of the accident were checking an articulated vehicle which was fully loaded with canoes.
Two of the three police officers were left crippled with one sustaining a broken jaw.
The bus driver also got injured.
The victims were sent to the SDA Hospital at Obuasi for intensive care.
Meanwhile, the driver had dropped off the students at the neighbouring communities and was returning to the school when he smashed into the barrier.
