The Adisadel College student who assaulted his colleague is expected to appear in court court today, Friday, July 28.
He was initially arrested by the police on the orders of the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.
He was thus cautioned for assault and causing harm, and subsequently released to the school’s headmaster to be produced in court today.
Scores of Ghanaians expressed shock and disgust when the video showing the student abusing his colleague surfaced on social media on Tuesday, July 25, however, a communique by the Headmaster of the school through the PTA Chairman disclosed that the incident happened about a month ago on 30th June 2023.
Subsequent information disclosed that they were fighting over a sim card.
Meanwhile, the school has recalled the victim who was also suspended following public dissatisfaction.
Some members of the public believed that the victim rather deserves adequate care; and not sanctions following his ordeal.
The ‘assaulted’ student is currently receiving medical care while school authorities and other stakeholders are ensuring that such a violent act would not be repeated.
Other students who witnessed the incident but failed to report it, together with the Senior Housemaster have also been sanctioned.
The Adisadel College incident has also raised questions about safety of students in schools while others are calling on GES to revise their decision to eliminate corporal punishment from schools.
