There is a serious tension at Diabene in the Sekondi /Takoradi metropolis over the burial of a resident who died in a galamsey disaster. The deceased, one Edmund Cudjoe, is one of the six galamsey victims who died at Manso Wassa a few weeks ago. The deceased’s family belongs to one of the factions in a Chieftancy dispute in the community Residents tell CONNECT FM’s Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that custom demands that before any corpse in the community is buried, the bereaved family must inform the chief, however the family of the deceased wouldn’t want to recognise the authority of the chief and his Queen mother. The Chief and people loyal to him are therefore preventing the body to be buried, fuelling serious tension. A relative of the deceased told CONNECT FM even the intervention of the police failed to bring peace. As at 3pm, the corpse was still lying in the casket as the family explore every necessary avenue to get way to even dig his grave. Source: CONNECT FM 97.1 | 3news.com]]>
