One of the impounded trucks[/caption] Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Assembly Taskforce led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Nana Appiah Kronah has stormed the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital to arrest illegal sand winners on the hospital’s land. Members of the taskforce which included the municipal engineer and district police commander arrested three people who were allegedly winning sand when the team went to the hospital upon a tip off. Two tipper truck vehicles with registration numbers WR-3630-13 and GS-3146-13 loaded with sand were impounded; the three suspects were also handed over to the police. 3news.com can confirm that the parcel of land left for future development at the hospital have been encroached upon by illegal sand winners. Municipal Chief Executive Nana Appiah Korang exclusively told 3news.com’s correspondent in the Central Region Kwame Kakraba how the illegal activities have been troubling the psychiatric hospital, noting that the land belongs to the Ministry of Health. “As a chief executive officer of this municipality, I am not going to sit down for such illegal activities to destroy the hospital lands,” he stressed. The assembly has been battling with the activities of illegal sand winners for some time now, but Mr Appiah Korang has pledged to enforce the law to deal with illegal sand winners. According to Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipal Engineer, Mr Frank Gyasi the assembly will issue permit to only genuine businesses to operate in the municipality, cautioning persons giving their lands out to these illegal sand winners to desist. The Acting Health Director at Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital Dr Kwadwo Obeng Marfo is calling on government agencies to help curb the operation of sand winners on hospital’s land. “We need justice and therefore we will not sit down and allow these sand winners to destroy our land meant for future development,” he said. District Police Commander of Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem, DSP Samuel Entsua Annan assured about the commitment of his command to take the fight to the encroachers and prosecute those arrested.
