The late MP [L] in happier times[/caption]Some supporters of the NPP in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency massed up at the party headquarters in Accra to resist attempt by the party leadership to endorse the late Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Agyarko’s first wife as a replacement. The supporters are rather pressing for the second wife, Lydia Alhassan Agyarko to be selected by the party for the impending by-election. The former Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon passed away on November 21, 2018 in the United States after a protracted ailment. A by-election is supposed to take place 60 days after his death to replace him. Some of the grassroots supporters marched to the NPP headquarters on Monday to petition the party executives to give the second wife of the former MP a chance to go to Parliament. They stormed there carrying placards with the inscriptions: ‘we believe in Lydia’, ‘Obaapa Lydia’, and ‘Lydia the workaholic’ among others to insist on their choice. “We cannot go and market a different person. Maa Lydia is already marketable because she is always for the people. If she goes through the election and she does not win, we shall not be peeved, the former coordinator for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency,” Clement Chameyone insisted. According to him, the petition has been accepted by the party executives and they have been advised to wait for the steering committee of the party to take a decision on the issue.
