Three illegal gold miners lost their lives after a mining pit collapsed on them at Teakmu in the Mpohor District of the Western Region. The accident happened at a time operation vanguard, an inter-ministerial and security taskforce, continues to wage war against illegal mining. The bodies have been identified as Ibrahim aged 25, Badu 27 and Atta aged 28. The Mpohor Police Command indicates that about 5pm on Thursday, Nov 1, they had information that some gold miners had gone to an abandoned galamsey pit at Teakmu near Mpohor to mine. In the process, a portion of the pit caved in and trapped them to death. Police proceeded to the scene and found the bodies of the deceased persons retrieved by their colleagues lying in supine position covered with palm fronds.
