Prepare for imminent earthquake – NADMO warns

December 23, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

File[/caption] The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is warning residents living in areas considered to be earthquake prone to brace themselves for the pending disaster. The warning follows recent occurrences of earth tremor in some areas such as Mallam, Weija, Gbawe and Kasoa in the national capital, Accra. It is also influenced by Ghana Geological Survey Authority’s inability to tell when such disaster will strike, even though the authority says there are signs of impending earthquake. Read this: Danger: Earthquake looms; but Geological Survey Authority can’t predict when “With the recent earth tremors happening, we caution the citizens to prepare for any imminent occurrence of earthquake disaster,” a statement signed by the Director General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh cautioned. Aside the occasional warnings from state agencies, no clear-cut plan has been outlined to evacuate the about a million of residents living within the fault line. But NADMO said, together with its partners, it is ready to “help mitigate the effect of any such occurrence on the citizenry, especially those living along the faultline”. Nonetheless, the Christmas statement from NADMO urged Ghanaians to go about the celebration with caution and care, underscoring that the country needs productive citizens in 2019 to combine efforts to build a resilient nation. With the harmattan/dry season at hand, a period where the country is prone to fire and road crash emergencies, NADMO advised the general public to avoid:

  • Indiscriminate setting of fires.
  • Inappropriate use of electricity and electrical appliances.
  • Drinking and driving and
  • Road traffic indiscipline
Meanwhile, NADMO said it has put measures in place to ensure that the organisation is more visible from next year. “We will also launch our “Catch the young” project next year by setting up disaster clubs in the various schools from the Basic through High Schools to the Tertiary level.” By Isaac Essel | 3news.com | Ghana]]>

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
