Police directs Menzgold customers to halt illegal demo

January 8, 2019
Reading Time: 2 mins read

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has warned some aggrieved customers of the embattled gold trading company, Menzgold to suspend their planned demonstration on Tuesday. The police said the intended action by the group under the name ‘Concerned Menzgold Customers’ is “illegal”. Reports received by 3news.com from the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, suggest that Menzgold customers bused from Accra, Tarkwa and from other regions are gathering in their numbers at the Amakom branch of the company in Kumasi. But the police in a statement issued on Monday said the organisers of the demonstration failed to meet the police to plan for the exercise. The organisers may have turned down the invitation realising the intention of the police to postpone the demonstration. The police had explained, “Based on that the Police Command invited the leaders of the group to hold a meeting with them, in order to make an arrangement for a new date to be fixed, since they did not follow due process as spelt out in the Public Order Act. “Meanwhile the leaders of the ‘intended demonstrators’ turned down the invitation extended to them by the Police Command and insisted on embarking on the demonstration.” The police is therefore warning it might come hard on persons who take part in the demonstration. “As such, they are being warned to rescind their decision since embarking on such demonstration will be deemed Illegal. “Therefore, whoever takes part In the demonstration will be dealt with according to law,” the police cautioned. The Security and Exchange Commission ordered Menzgold to suspend operations in the middle of 2018 after it was found that the company was operating without valid license. Customers of Menzgold have since been exploring various means to have their investment worth millions of cedis looked up released. who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
