The police in the Ashanti region have arrested two people in connection with the murder of Ruth Ama Eshun on February 3, 2020. The 37-year-old nurse met her untimely death on her way home from work at a town called Ayuom in the Bosomtwi District in the Ashanti Region. She was working at the Sewua Health Center. Three women have been killed by unknown assailants in the past three weeks at Aheneba Kokoben, Abuakwa Sepaase and Ayuom all in the Ashanti region. The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah is confident the criminals will be arrested as the police have stepped up their operations. “The crime rate compared to previous years has come down,” he said, “It is unfortunate we are experiencing such a crime and it is happening to a nurse.” The death of Ruth Eshun has sparked a nationwide outcry with the family calling for justice. Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service has described the mother of three as “one of its dedicated Registered Community Health Nurses”. A statement issued by the Service on February 10 said it received with “shock the sad news” of her murder. “The Service is relying on the expertise of the Ghana Police Service to unravel the cause of death and bring the perpetrators to face the full rigor of the law as we seek justice.” The statement signed by the Acting Director General, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said, “The Ghana Health Service and the Council would like to assure our staff that the Service is taking steps including liaising with the various Regional Coordinating Council to prioritize the security and safety of all staff across the country.” Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
