Veep commissions largest fertiliser-blending factory under 1D1F

November 12, 2022
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday commissioned Ghana’s largest fertiliser-blending factory. Glofert Limited, a wholly owned Ghanaian company, was commissioned at Asuboi in the Eastern Region under the One-District One-Factory (1D1F) Programme. The factory has an ultra-modern fertiliser blending plant with the capacity to produce 2,400 metric tonnes of fertiliser per day to improve crop production and ensure food security in Ghana. According to the Vice President, Ghana can now produce all the blended fertiliser it needs domestically. Therefore, he urged the Ministry for Food and Agriculture, Ghana Cocoa Board and other stakeholders to henceforth purchase fertiliser from domestic sources in order to support local businesses and save the nation valuable foreign exchange. Dr Bawumia said 181 factories under the 1D1F were being implemented, 57 were in operation, 22 under construction and another 33 projects were being financed by local banks and ready for implementation by the end of the year, as well as 56 small-scale enabler youth business incubators being financed by the African Development Bank(AfDB). The fertiliser factory has already employed 220 direct and indirect workers, of which 80 per cent were employed from communities within its catchment area. A Minister of State at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Dr Gyiele Nurah, noted that government has increased fertiliser supply to farmers from 134,000 metric tonnes to 290,000 metric tonnes at the end of 2018 since the launch of the Planting for Foods and Jobs (PFJ). He said government has targeted one million farmers at the end of this year. Chief Executive Officer of Glofert Limited Reverend Foster Mawuli Benson lauded government for creating the enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He indicated that Glofert will produce all kinds of fertilizers with an installed capacity of 2,400 metric tonnes per day and more than 840, 000 metric tonnes per annum. Source: 3news.com|Ghana]]>

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
