Charles Hagan[/caption] Chief Fisherman for the Sekondi landing beach, Charles Hagan, has been elected as the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress for the Sekondi Constituency in the Western Region. Charles Hagan widely known as PANYA, secured 244 out of the total number of 585 votes cast, to beat a former deputy Western Region Minister Betty Bosomtwi Sam who had 175 votes and a former Mayor of Sekondi Takoradi, Charlotte Otuwa Odoom who had 163 votes. The delegates overwhelmingly settled on the unlettered Chief Fisherman whom many did not give a dog change going into the primaries. For many of the delegates, they decided to settle on Charles Hagan because he understands the needs of the grassroots, a quality the other two aspirants lacks. Even before the votes were counted the delegates kept chanting the name, “PANYA”. Going into the primaries Charles Hagan had maintained a collected demeanour which many watchers said will work against him. But apparently his posturing was to let the votes do the talking. In an exclusive interview with 3news.com, Charles Hagan thanked the delegates for voting for me. “This is the day the lord has made and the NDC should be glad. This could have only gone one way and that was me”. He said “this victory in it true sense is not for me but for the NDC”. “The only way I can thank the delegates and our great NDC party is to win decisively in the 2020 elections and that will not be in doubt”. He also congratulated the other aspirants and expressed the willingness to work with them to win the Sekondi parliamentary seat for NDC in the 2020 general elections. Ahanta West Elsewhere in Ahanta West Constituency former Member of Parliament George Kwame Aboagye beat competition from his two challengers. He had 555 out of a total of 1,509 votes cast. Meanwhile Western Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress Nana Toku has congratulated all aspirants for comporting themselves. He charged all of them to dissolve their teams.
