The president of Artisans Association of Ghana (AAG), Gideon Bidor has urged members to adhere to President Akufo-Addo’s directives ordering a partial lockdown in some parts of the country.
“We further wish to encourage members to consider partial lockdown all activities with heavy interpersonal traffic for a while until the situation is brought under control”, he said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Bidor, activities of members involve a lot of personal contacts with colleagues and clients which makes them very vulnerable to the Coronavirus.
“AAG involves teamwork which requires a lot of personal contact especially site workers and interpersonal contact with our numerous clients. This makes us very vulnerable to the Coronavirus and calls for drastic measures to maintain health and safety”, he explained.
The partial lockdown in Greater Accra metropolitan area and Greater Kumasi metropolitan took effect from 30th March, 2020. Ghana has so far recorded 204 cases of which five have died and 31 have recovered.
“We kindly plead with members, clients and partnering companies not to be complacent and to take measures at this crucial period to ensure full health and safety compliance”, he said.
The President of AAG showed a grave concern on the rising numbers of infected persons in Ghana.
He therefore reminded the public on some of the precautionary measures that needs to be observed:
Staying home to partake in the presidential partial lockdown, washing of hands regularly with soap under running water, sanitizing of hands with alcoholic based sanitizers, wearing of nose mask, observing social distancing and reporting of any suspected cases to various health care centers or the COVID-19 team.
