The council of elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and leadership of the party have reached a resolution with members of parliament of the majority caucus concerning their demands for the removal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
A statement jointly signed by the Majority Chief whip of parliament, Annoh Dompreh and General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, noted that the agreement was reached at a meeting held on November 22, 2022.
The MPs, it said, would “refocus and recline to an earlier position requested by the president Nana Akufo-Addo”.
According to the statement, the position of the president was for the majority caucus to support the finance minister until the conclusion of the round of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which would feed into the 2023 Budget.
Another request was for the majority to support the presentation of the 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Finance Minister on November 24, 2022 on behalf of the President, and the subsequent presentation and passage of the Appropriation Bill.
Leaders of the party urged the members of parliament to use the caucus’ communication channels and work as a unit.
They were also entreated to attend to all government businesses in the House, most especially the 2023 budget statement and economic policy and its related issues.
