Ordinarily, the main focus of a Gospel musician is preaching salvation and winning souls for Christ in the process, but in recent times it seems to be secondary to most of them.
Gospel musicians these days have been accused of being too money conscious than winning souls for Christ through their songs but Gospel musician Joyce Blessing believes both are equally important and they go hand in hand.
Joyce Blessing made her point clear in an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, November 28 and she didn’t mince words in expressing her views.
“From my side, I would say the money aspect is important and preaching salvation is also important.
‘’You see, before you are able to reach a lot of people with the word of God with your music, you need money to push it. When you write a song about salvation and you don’t get money to push it, no one will hear it.
“It is just you and your household who will listen to the song. You need money to invest in the job of getting it out there otherwise you cannot reach where you intend to,’’ she explained.
Comparing when she started Gospel music professionally to now, Joyce Blessing said, “content is still okay and professionally there is an upgrade in the fraternity but when it comes to music promotion, it is very tight. This is because there are so many radio and TV stations now and one has to take his or her works all round so it is not easy at all”, she added.
