A woman in eastern China divorced her husband of ten years because of his fishing obsession, and he was even late to court because of his passion for the sport.
The man, named Mr Sun in local media in Heze City, Shandong Province, ran late to his trial at the People’s Court of Juye County after being summoned by the judge when he forgot to come because he was out fishing.
His unusual obsession with the sport even forced his wife, named Ms Zhang in local media, to file for divorce after ten years of marriage and two children together.
Sun is an avid fisherman and spends a lot on fishing gear.
His wife communicated with Sun many times, asking him to fish less, spend more time with the children, and do housework, but he still went his own way.
The wife had no choice but to take him to court, insisting on a divorce, and refused to accept the reconciliation.
On the day of the trial, Sun failed to show up when the court session began.
The judge called to inquire and found out that he had gone fishing in the reservoir early in the morning and forgotten the time.
Sun said that after agreeing to the divorce, he had had enough of his wife’s nagging for more than ten years, and no one would care about him fishing after the divorce.
After repeated persuasion by the judge to no avail, the two parties finally reached a mediation agreement and ended the marriage.
