Mr. Lithur, who was former President Mahama’s lawyer in the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court, has filed for divorce against his wife who is a human rights activist and a former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection under Mahama. The divorce process was filed in a petition dated May 2, 2018 at the Divorce Registry of the High Court by Tony Lithur’s solicitor S.K. Osafo Buabeng. The issue has gained currency on social media as it’s being fueled by numerous speculations. This has compelled the legal practitioner to publicly comment on the development with the wife who is also a lawyer by profession. “My attention has been drawn to the publication on social media of the docket copy of a petition for divorce I have filed against Nana Oye Lithur at the Divorce and Matrimonial Division of the High Court, Accra and some pictures of us,” he wrote in a statement. He acknowledged the existence of the petition, and pointed out that the process is an “emotional and difficult one” for the couple and their children. “I would, therefore, very respectfully and humbly, ask the general public to kindly give us, our children, and loved ones some  privacy to deal quietly with this painful stage of our lives”.
