Obuasi East DCE calls for curfew to curtail spread of COVID-19

May 12, 2020
Reading Time: 2 mins read

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Obuasi East in the Ashanti region, Faustina Amissah wants curfew immediately imposed on Obuasi enclave due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 cases in the area.

As at 11th May, 2020 Obuasi had recorded 261 COVID-19 cases with one death, and remains the epicenter in the region.

But the figure in Obuasi shot up to 361 on 12th May, 2020 after 100 new cases were recorded.

Faustina Amissah speaking on “Yensempa” morning show on Onua FM prayed for a curfew to be imposed on the people of Obuasi to curb the spread of the deadly virus in the area.

She wants the curfew to start from 5:00pm to 6:00am every day to allow the security agencies to keenly monitor movement of the people in ensuring compliance with all protocols including social distancing.

“I will not recommend lockdown, I will recommend curfew because lockdown have its severe implications which might outweigh its benefits on the society”.

She added, “I wish the curfew would be imposed to strengthen the measures in the fight against the virus”.

Faustina Amissah also revealed the security personnel ratio to the citizenry in the area is low making it difficult in enforcing the directives, hence her call on President Akufo-Addo to impose the curfew.

Commenting on a demonstration staged by the people of Akaporiso, a suburb of Obuasi against the use of an isolation center in the area, Madam Faustina Amissah said the District Security Council (DISEC) had to apply force to get residents to comply after all engagement had failed.

She stated the COVID-19 patients are currently in the facility receiving medication.

The residents were of the view that one could easily contract the disease and wanted the isolation center to be cited outskirt of the town not within.

The DCE however said the assembly would continue to engage the community in intensifying public education.

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
