A police officer stationed at Apromase in the Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region, has lost his life together with the wife and child through fire outbreak.
Newstitbits.com gathered that the officer, his wife Millicent Agyei aka Yaa Achiaa and their three-month old baby girl were asleep when their residential apartment went up in flame losing their lives in the process.
The police officer identified Police Sergeant, Owusu Asante Baafi was burnt beyond recognition.
He was a member of the Anti Robbery Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Ashanti Regional Police Command.
Residents told Newstitbits.com correspondent in the Ashanti region that, the fire that engulfed the victims’ rooms and other apartment started around 1:00 am Monday, January 16 and extended to the family’s room on the third floor of the apartment.
“I then saw thick smoke bellowing from the room of the deceased and spreading to my room. I quickly woke up my two boys and rushed them downstairs.
“Some of the men who came out tried their best to break in and rescue the officer and his family but they couldn’t because of the steel door and burglar proof window. Within minutes, the fire spread to all the 5 apartments at the last floor,” a neighbour told journalists.
The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigation into the deadly incident.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has visited the scene and commiserated with the bereaved family and colleague officers of the victims who appeared down broken.
