The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has expressed fears that it is possible jihadist groups operating on the border towns of Bawku have infiltrated the town hence the escalation of the existing conflict.
He noted that the activities of the jihadist groups within the area is of major concern especially in an era of terrorist attacks.
According to him, “it is very sad that people have lost their lives” and the Regional Security Council is interested in knowing what happened.
The minister, who doubles as the Chairman of the Security Council for the region, was worried that the crisis in the Bawku enclave was taking too long to resolve thus increasing the rate of destruction of property and the loss of human lives.
His comments come after the killing of at least seven people in the vicinity following a military operation in the area.
The military have however denied killing residents in Bawku in a statement to the press on Thursday.
The Ghana Armed Forces noted that they only neutralized some gunmen, contrary to the allegations of murder levelled against them by members of the public.
On his part, Security analyst, Adam Bonaa, has urged government to investigate whether some jihadist groups have invaded Bawku.
He claimed that some suspected jihadists attempted something in the country though it was not something that was announced.
“So it is important to have a thorough investigation conducted to know if we have some terrorists who have infiltrated Bawku to aid their friends and families among others,” Mr. Bonaa told a local radio station in Accra.
