The remains of Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu will arrive in Ghana today, February 19, 2023.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the player’s mortal remains will be received at the Kotoka International Airport at 7pm.
The announcement follows the retrieval of Atsu’s lifeless body from the wreckage in Turkey after an 11-storey building collapsed on him and others during an earthquake in Turkey and Syria about two weeks ago.
“The remains will be accompanied by his family and Ghana’s Ambassador to Türkiye on a Turkish Airlines flight and will arrive in Accra at 7:40 p.m. today Sunday, 19 February 2023,” said the Ministry in a statement.
“The remains will be received at the Kotoka International Airport by the family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the government upon its arrival from Istanbul, Türkiye.”
The statement added that “our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, and we pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Christian Atsu.”
Many Ghanaians including celebrities have paid tribute to the Black Star’s and former Chelsea and Newcastle United forward since the news of his demise.
