Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced government’s commitment to ensure that the late Ghana international footballer, Christian Atsu receives a befitting burial.
Dr. Bawumia made the remarks during a brief ceremony to receive the remains of the late Christian Atsu from Turkey on Sunday evening.
While extending his condolences to the bereaved family and Ghanaians as a whole, the Vice President declared that the state would collaborate with the family to give him a befitting farewell.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the entire family for their loss and I would like to say that the State will be fully involved with the family in providing him a befitting burial.”
He added that “it is a very sad day that we are here to receive the remains of our brother, Christian Atsu. The earthquake that struck Turkey was devastating, and we prayed every day that passed for our brother to be found but when he was found, he was no more.”
“According to the Vice President, Christian Atsu was much loved and would be sorely missed.
“It is a very painful loss, and we pray that the soul of our brother rests in the bosom of our maker.”
The vice president further expressed his gratitude to the family for their efforts in bringing the body back to Ghana and to Ghanaians for their prayers and support.
