The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Northern Development Authority (NDA), Sumaila Abdul-Rahman has resigned.
He officially communicated this decision to the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President in a letter dated March 3, 2023.
“This decision has become necessary to enable me step aside and allow the ongoing judicial process to take place without any interference,” he said in the letter.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority together with three others are being prosecuted by the Office of Special Prosecutor.
He and his former two deputies, Stephen Yir-eru Engmen in Charge of Operations, and Mr. Patrick Seidu, the Deputy Chief Executive (Finance & Administration) as well as a private person Andrew Kuundaari were investigated for alleged corruption.
The Special Prosecutor had in a statement in January said the four are being prosecuted for breaches of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663).
“Mr. Sumaila Abdul-Rahman, Mr. Patrick Seidu and Mr. Andrew Kuundaari have been charged with a further count each of directly or indirectly influencing the procurement process to obtain an unfair advantage in the award of a procurement contract, while Mr. Stephen Yir-eru Engmen has been charged with a further two (2) counts of the same offence,” the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng said in that statement.
Meanwhile, Abdul-Rahman has thanked President Akufo-Addo for giving him the mandate to serve the country.
“Over the last two years, I have worked with my team to oversee the implementation of Government flagship projects that are making a huge difference to the people of Northern Ghana. We have also developed a Five-Year Medium-Term Development Strategy which was launched by His Excellency the Vice President in November 2022. I have also worked to establish a very strong relationship between Developing Partners and the NDA,” he touted.
