Murdered young soldier, Imoro Sheriff, buried today

The 22-year-old soldier, Trooper Imoro Sheriff, who was murdered in cold blood on March 4 has been laid to rest.

The burial took place on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Burma Camp cemetery in line with the Islamic tradition.

The soldier who is the first of two siblings met his untimely death near the Amania Hotel at Taifa, a community in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region.

He was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants.

According to Afia Kyeraa, the 45-year-old mother of the murdered soldier, only his mobile phone was taken away, but his money, tablet and other contents in his bag were left intact.

She told journalists the death of his son is a big blow to the family because he was expected to provide financial support to the family, more especially the younger sibling.

A statement by the Ghana Armed Forces said Trooper Sherrif, who was stationed in Sunyani, was in Accra on a Course and had sought permission to visit his parents at Ashaiman where he grew up, but was found in a pool of blood in the early hours of Saturday.

The military responded with a swoop that saw armed military personnel unleashing violence on residents in part of Ashaiman on March 7.

The soldiers said they were there to effect the arrest of persons suspected to be behind the gruesome murder of a young soldier who is barely a year in the service.

According to GAF, during the course of their operation, they seized 29 slabs and 57 mini slabs of suspected Indian hemp and amnesia among other forms of the narcotics.

Also, about 184 suspects aged between 21 and 47 years old were arrested and handed over to the military police who will subsequently send them over to the Ghana Police Service for screening and further action.

Some of the suspects have since been released, who have further recounted how they were severely beaten at the Burman Camp, where the Ghana Armed Forces is headquartered.

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
