In a surprise move, incumbent Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye Ackah, has withdrawn from Sunday’s NDC primary, paving way for Joana Gyan Cudjoe to be acclaimed as the party’s parliamentary candidate on September 8.
The decision by the member of Parliament has been met with delight from party members in the constituency, who believe that Gyan Cudjoe is the ideal candidate to represent their interests in Parliament.
The embattled Gyan Cudjoe, who has been campaigning tirelessly in the constituency, has promised to bring development and prosperity to the area. Her vision and leadership style have resonated with the delegates, who are expected to acclaim her as the party’s candidate.
The Amenfi Central Constituency has been a stronghold of the opposition NDC, and the party is confident of retaining the seat in the upcoming general elections. With Gyan Cudjoe as their candidate, the party says it is poised to continue its dominance in the constituency.
Ms. Cudjoe won the party’s parliamentary primary held on May 13, 2023, but had the results annulled by the party’s Functional Executive Committee due to litigation at the High Court in Sekondi.
The party, however, opened nominations on Friday, September 6 for rerun of the elections.
Five aspirants had initially picked nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra to contest the election scheduled for Sunday, September 8.
