The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated that the call for a forensic audit of the voters register was not solely an NDC demand, but a necessary step to ensure the integrity of the upcoming December 7 general election.
Speaking after an engagement with the Chiraahene, Nana Barima Mintah Afari II on Monday morning [September 9, 2024], Mr Mahama echoed the chief’s sentiments, emphasising the importance of safeguarding the sanctity of the electoral process.
The Chiraahene had urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to take all necessary precautions to ensure the credibility of the election and warned that negligence could lead to chaos.
The NDC has expressed concerns about irregularities in the voter register, calling on the EC to address these issues before the elections.
Mr Mahama reiterated that this demand is a “legitimate call from all peace-loving Ghanaians” who seek a free, fair, and peaceful election.
He added that the call for an audit of the register should unite all citizens in the pursuit of electoral integrity.
