Members of the Association of Ghana Solar Industries stormed the offices of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) with their mattresses and pillows, accusing the Commission of neglect.
They were contracted by the Government of Ghana through PURC and the Energy Commission to provide electricity to some selected hairdressers and barbers across the country when the erratic power situation (Dumsor) was at its peak.
Even though the solar system was installed in September 2016, government has yet to pay them.
President of the Association, Mr. Eric Owusu, had said they were prepared to sleep at the PURC if they don’t get positive response from the PURC.
He told 3News his members are “tired” of being ignored whenever they called on PURC to demand their money.
Kojo Dayie of Amazon Developments Limited told 3News as part of the agreement, government was to pay them within 90 days, but it reneged.
He said 12 members of the Association contracted for the project are owed in excess of one million.
Mr. Dayie said they rescinded their decision to pass the night at PURC after an intervention by the Board Chairman of PURC, Mr Micheal Opam, when he realised that the development was becoming embarrassing.
The Board Chairman therefore rescheduled a meeting with them at the Energy Ministry for an amicable settlement.
