Akufo-Addo should order the arrest of Osafo Maafo – Asiedu Nketia

November 25, 2019

Mr Osafo-Maafo

Mr Osafo-Maafo is the Senior Minister[/caption] The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the president, to with immediate effect, order the arrest of the Senior Minster, Yaw Osafo Maafo for breaching the Procurement Act. At a news conference in Accra, Monday, the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said the President should do this to demonstrate that no one is above the law when it comes to the fight against corruption. According to him, the attempt to remove the the Auditor General is a deliberate move by the government to cover up the rot and the looting of public funds by the Akufo-Addo-led government. He questioned why EOCO will invite the Auditor General, Yaw Domelovo, for questioning and granting him bail but failed to invite Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo for alleged procurement breaches. The General Secretary also charged anti graft organizations in the country to rise up and call the government to order for the attempt to remove the Auditor General. He suspects Mr. Domelovo being chased out of office because of his strict stance against corruption irrespective of who is involved. Asiedu Nketiah reiterated that, one of the reason the government is taking action against the Auditor General is to get its stooge in place of Daniel Yaw Domelovo to massage the 2017 audit report which recorded a lot of anomalies against government officials. He alleged the contract that has put the Senior Minister in this controversy was signed in September 2017 but execution took a retrospective effect from February 2017, adding the Auditor General’s request for the Senior Minister to show evidence for the alleged procurement breaches was not adhered to. He said the senior minster rather presented a document on a contract that was supposed to be under the National Security Council Secretariat. “A letter dated 14th November, 2017 and addressed to the Minister for National Security, showed sole sourcing approval by the PPA . This purported approval went to the National Security Council Secretariat and not the Senior Minister. We must note that the Senior Minister, Mr. Osafo Maafo, is not a member of the National Security Council Secretariat”. He said if Yaw Osafo Maafo is innocent he should go to court to prove his innocence and not haunt the Auditor General for being tough on corruption. Asiedu Nketia also alleged that some pro-NPP pressure groups such as AFAG are planning to petition the president for the removal of the Auditor General Yaw Domelovo.
