Contractors owed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) started receiving payment today January 6. 2017 started with some contractors working on GETFund projects picketing at the Ministry of Finance to demand monies owed them. It is to the tune of over GHc 300 million spanning a period of six months. This also incited the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors in the Volta Region to threaten to block access roads and facilities they have constructed today if they are not paid monies owed them. But speaking to 3FM business, Deputy Director of GETFund, Stephen Baffoe, says the Fund has started disbursing an initial 110 million Ghana cedis received from the Ministry of Finance. “The funds delayed from the ministry, but we have started paying them. Those contractors whose cheques were written in May and June have started receiving their funds”, he emphasized. He has assured contractors that they will continue paying, as a change in government will not affect their contracts. “I think what has brought us to this state is that people are apprehensive. We assure them to be calm. The system continues and a change in government will not affect their contracts. We have a contract and they will be paid”, he assured. By Grace Asare |3FM|3news.com]]>
