I’m ready to face “dumb” Muntaka in Parliament – Ken Agyapong

June 23, 2018
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Kennedy Agyapong is the Member of Parliament for Assin Central[/caption] The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who is billed to face the Privileges Committee of Parliament for allegedly insulting MPs,  has gone on the offensive again, this time calling a leader of the House dumb. Ken Agyapong is reported to have described the House as “useless” for having Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as its Majority Leader on Accra-based Net2 TV. The Minority Chief Whip,  Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka moved a motion on the floor of Parliament earlier this month for Kennedy Agyapong to be dragged before the Privileges Committee. He is supposed to meet the committee next week. But Mr. Agyapong who claimed he has personally apologised to the Majority Leader has been infuriated by the move. The Assin Central MP told the media on Friday that Muntaka was “dumb” for referring him to Parliament’s Privileges Committee over  the purported insults, insisting the referral was based on comments taken out of context. [caption id="attachment_41157" align="aligncenter" width="507"] Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka[/caption] “I am not scared of anybody in this country…I live my life…that is a dumb statement he has ever made…he is a dumb MP and now I will take him on, let him go to the privileges committee and say that I said so because he did not listen to the context of the issue and just dragged the matter to the committee,” Mr. Agyapong went berserk. According to the Assin Central legislator, “I was referring to the NPP Chairman in the Ashanti region so where did I insult parliament? Then, I responded to my leader [Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu] which I have apologised.” He stressed, “I am surprised there are dumb MPs…they will prove it because the video and tape are there… “I am surprised we have MPs who just consume information without digesting it…I am not afraid, the tape is there let them play it if I insulted any MP…I respect him but the way he tries to disrespect me, I don’t like that.” He has since thrown a challenge to the Asawase MP, Mubarak for a showdown, which has readily been accepted but for the Parliamentary rules that require the two to behave responsibly as gentlemen. Meanwhile, Dr. Edward Brenya, a Senior Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology says the position taken by Mr. Agyapong was “very unfortunate”. He told TV3 the words used by the MP were “too harsh” to be directed at his colleague MPs. He therefore prayed the MPs will not take a partisan stand where the Majority NPP may try to protect him and not allow the house to deal with the issue as it should. Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
