A 52-year-old palm wine tapper has been shot dead at Etsii Bewora in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
The victim identified as Kofi Adjei, a well-known palm wine tapper, was on his farm on Thursday, January 12, 2023 undertaking his usual business around 11:30p.m. when the incident happened.
The Assemblyman for Abeadze Kyeakor Electoral Area, Mr. Abraham Eshun told the media that whilst the deceased was tapping palm wine deep in the night, the suspect Kobina Afful too was on a hunting spree.
Reports gathered by newstitbits.com suggest that the suspect is not a hunter but decided to go to the bush on that fateful day to hunt for bush meat to sell, in order to get transportation fare to enable him travel back to Accra after the Christmas festivities.
It is not clear how he mistook the deceased for a game and shot him in the head, killing him instantly.
According to the Assemblyman, Kobina Afful handed himself to the Ajumako police command to assist in the investigations.
The victim’s wife Maame Ekua Yeduwa noted that she was just a distance away from where the husband was in the farm when she heard gunshots, she called her husband but had no response.
She sad, together with her two daughters, they searched the farm only to find him later in a pool of blood.
She is seeking justice for the husband as she appeals to the Ghana Police Service to quicken investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, the body has been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
