The Chairman of the Council of Elders for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in South Africa, Benjamin Kofi Quashie has given the strongest indication yet that the opposition party is ready to recapture power from the ruling NPP.

According to him, the NDC has learnt its lessons from the 2020 general elections and have also gone ahead to implement the recommendations in the Kwesi Botchwey report to avoid the mistakes that took them into opposition.

Speaking on Accra-based Onua TV, he said following the Kwesi Botchew report, the party has started engaging the members from the grassroots to the top “to ensure we don’t disappoint the base.”

Mr. Quashie explained that one of the key factors that cost them the 2020 elections was that the grassroots were unhappy with leadership and certain happenings in the party and therefore they have taken steps not to disappoint them anymore.

“This time, we have done a lot of revitalization…the party is so much poised and looking at the current crop of leaders, we can do it…” he remarked with confidence.

He took the opportunity to encourage leadership to ginger the grassroots and form formidable teams with technical know-how at all levels, starting with the branch towards the constituency, regional to national levels to police the elections come 2024 to avoid previous blunders at the branch and constituency levels.

Responding to a question, he further dispelled rumours that there is bad blood between immediate past Chairman Ofosu Ampofo and his successor Asiedu Nketia.

He opined that the internal elections are over and the two would work hand in hand to ensure the party take over the reigns of power from the ruling NPP

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
