The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), backed by the National Security Secretariat, raided the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) offices in Tema and Osu, Accra, today, June 10.
The coordinated operation, conducted under court warrants, led to the arrest of three senior SML directors and a seizure of electronic data from server facilities.
What We Know So Far
- Purpose of the Raid: At the center of this investigation is the contested SML contract — awarded to manage revenue assurance for petroleum and mineral sectors. The OSP’s team is now examining electronic documents and internal communications to uncover potential wrongdoing.
- Individuals Detained: Three directors from SML’s Tema branch were taken into custody. While official identities aren’t yet public, the haul includes electronic devices and server data.
- Scope of Investigations: The drama follows OSP’s intensified scrutiny into contracts involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, now wanted for his alleged role in facilitating the SML deal. Earlier this year, his refusal to engage led the OSP to declare him a fugitive from justice.
SML was awarded high-value contracts via single-source procurement, despite lacking prior experience, and over objection from the Public Procurement Authority.
Payments totaling over US$141 million had been paid by December 2023, with agreements extending to petroleum, mining, and gas revenue streams.
The arrested directors are expected to face further questioning, with formal charges likely to follow pending forensic analysis of the seized materials.
The SML probe dovetails into broader OSP investigations involving Ken Ofori-Atta, including the ECG‑Beijing Tech contract, National Cathedral procurement, ambulance purchases, and GRA tax refunds
TheOSP’s mandate empowers it to recover proceeds, prosecute offenders, and enhance corruption prevention—making today’s actions critical to both corporate and political integrity
