SUNDA donates to May 9 ‘Save a Sick Child’ project

May 13, 2018
Reading Time: 4 mins read

SUNDA International, a Chinese company operating in Ghana, has donated various quantities of household toiletries and detergents worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the May 9 ‘Save a sick Child’ project at the pediatric intensive care unit of the komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The donation forms part of SUNDA’s corporate social responsibility program that it has committed to for the last 14 years. And this follows a series of donations including to victims of the recent atomic gas explosion.

Speaking before the presentation, Alex Wang, deputy managing director of SUNDA International praised the May 9 Foundation for its humanitarian initiatives and pledged more support for similar projects in the future.

“For more than seven years we have been sponsoring May 9 activities to fulfill our corporate social responsibilities which we care deeply about. When we heard of this year’s theme ‘Save a sick child’ project to help children at the hospital, we thought we could do something to improve the living condition of the people’’

He added, “We have been doing a lot and we are going to do more. The purpose and aim of the May 9 is very positive, to help the poor people  and victims of disaster to improve their social condition and that’s why we have decided to support their projects’’.

Mr. Wang called on other capable organizations and individuals to also support the May 9 Foundation’s humanitarian initiatives.

President of the May 9 Foundation Mr. Herbert Mensah on his part thanked Sunda International and other sponsors for their committed support over the years for the Foundations activities and initiatives.

“I acknowledge and thank the sponsors of the project including the media for massively highlighting the problems of the sick children at KATH Sunda international for providing toiletries and detergents for the sick children in the hospital, Conservaria Ghana Ltd. for providing food stuffs, Interplast, Kwabena Kese of Kesben, Ransford Antwi of SunCity and all the sponsors for both cash and kind donations to the ‘Save a Sick Child Project’ of the May 9 foundation”.

Mr. Mensah also explained why the May 9 Foundation got involved with the project.

“My friends and myself who are involved with May 9 we try to help. Every year we are involved in something else. May 9 is something we do every year for seventeen years. We received a petition this year from some people in the medical field about this incredible problem of caustic soda ingestion among little children in the unit here. And so we got involved to try and help, bring about change, and secondly highlight the problem for others to get involved in bringing about change.’’

Dr. John A. Appiah, head of the pediatric intensive care unit of the KATH received donations in cash and kind on behalf of the beneficiary children and praised the Foundation for the humanitarian initiative towards sick children.

The ‘Save a sick child project’ seeks to restore the health of sick children whose parents are unable to afford the high cost of treatment specifically targeting victims of accidental ingestion of caustic soda at the pediatric intensive care unit of the Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
