Taking indiscipline in Police Service international problematic – Prof. Gavua

May 31, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

File: Ghanaian police personnel on a UN mission[/caption] International relations expert, Professor Kojo Gavua, has decried the growing indiscipline among a cross section of personnel of the Ghana Police Service. His comments follow the repatriation of 46 personnel of the Formed Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service from South Sudan after they were recalled in February 22 for allegedly engaging in transactional sex, which breaches the UN and UNMISS Code of Conduct that prohibits sexual relationships with vulnerable individuals. Sharing his thought on the issue, Prof.  Gavua told Onua FM’s morning show on Thursday that the exposé by the United Nations is a reflection of the level of indiscipline within the service. Read: UN repatriates Ghana Police peacekeepers accused of sexual misconduct In his assessment, some Ghanaians have on numerous occasions complained about the attitudes of some police personnel in the country, but unfortunately it was not curbed. Now they have taken the indiscipline to the international level, he remarked, describing the development as “very problematic”. He demanded immediate assessment and restructuring within the police service especially personnel they send on peacekeeping. He prayed the Ghana Police Service strictly applies its internal rules and regulations to instill discipline in officers. By Nana Owusuaa Osei-Kuffour/3news.com/Ghana]]>
